Advocacy & Outreach
NCHI advocates for equitable access to hearing devices, increased availability of support and clinical services, improved insurance coverage and expanded criteria for cochlear implantation.
NCHI and its leadership have a long history of advocating for individuals with hearing loss. From advocating for universal newborn hearing screenings to conducting and publishing cutting-edge research on language and literacy in children with cochlear implants, advocating for individuals with hearing loss is at the core of NCHI's mission.
Our location in Washington DC and its partnerships with The River School and Potomac River Clinic make it an ideal location to host policymakers and showcase the power of hearing technologies.
Policy Initiatives
NCHI works with families, clinicians, researchers, and policymakers to reduce barriers to timely diagnosis, intervention, and long‑term supports. Our policy portfolio focuses on legislative visits, CMS rulemaking, and insurance reforms that translate evidence into access.
Community Outreach Programs
The Community Outreach Fund addresses cost and other barriers so children with hearing loss, especially from underserved communities, can receive timely diagnosis, access to hearing technologies, family-centered therapy, and literacy enrichment through programs like the ILEAD Summer Literacy Program.
